At the edge of order & fluctuation :
where
activity, flows and symmetry converge

We explore the physics behind the fascinating properties of active particles such as motile organisms, model microswimmers and living matter. We probe them both at the individual and collective level and we do so by using theory and computations with equal measure.

News highlights

  • Derek's paper on active cross-stream migration has been published in Physical Review Letters. Congratulations Derek !

  • SERB, DST has approved a STARS funding for a theory and experimental collabration with Dr. Sivasurender Chandran at IIT Kanpur, to work on bacterial suspensions in thin films. Ambareesh from our group is actively contributing on the theory side.

  • Mahendradev Dinesan and SGM Rasheed joined our lab for their Masters thesis. Mahendradev will work on collective behaviour of colloids in active nematics and Rasheed on anisotropic artificial swimmers and mammalian spermatozoa. Welcome Mahendradev and Rasheed !

  • Job Joseph joined our lab as a PhD student. He will be working on suspensions of flexible microswimmers. Welcome Job !

  • Derek visited Prof. Holger Stark's group at TU Berlin as part of our collabration funded by the German Physical Society (DFG), where he also presented our work on Flagellar polymorphism under flow at the Deutsche Physikalische Gesellschaft (DPG), 2024, at Berlin.
